5 Days of Smoothies

health and fitness

We all know I am pretty obsessed with throwing a bunch of random food groups into a blender, especially since being pregnant. These days the thought of preparing most foods is a big enough turn off in itself, and protein was a hard no for the first 4ish months. Smoothies went from being a staple in my diet to the holy grail of ensuring I got in a daily dose of nutrients.

If you’ve seen my posts I’m also kind of artsy fartsy with my smoothies and love throwing them into a bowl and getting all Pinterest worthy on ya – but that has also stopped 99% of the time thanks to chronic fatigue and a surging hunger like never before.

So these 5 days of smoothies popped about when I got bored of making the same old smoothie, and honestly, writing out the same old ingredients for you all. It was time for me to get creative and funky with these babies and so I decided to commit to 5 days of new concoctions, and then share them all with ya!

Let me first preface this by saying I actually “winged” this entire week, I didn’t look up one recipe and kinda just went for it and… every single one passed my picky palate and blew me away. Legit, I would call up my boyfriend and describe these juicy creations cause I guess I was proud haha. Anyhow, here we go with the recipes now… ps let me know on Instagram or Facebook if I should keep this smoothie trend going for you all!

Day 1: Kale & Cashew Pineapple Cream

1 cup fresh kale (I then broke up and froze the rest of the batch for future smoothies)

1 cup frozen pineapple

1/2 banana

1.5 cups unsweetened cashew milk

1/4 cup plain cashews

1/2 fresh lemon juice

2 scoops vanilla plant based protein powder

I really loved this smoothie!! Usually kale throws me off a bit but this mixture was the perfect balance to make me get in the greens but only taste sweetness!

Day 2: Strawberry Sweet Treat

1 cup fresh spinach

2 cups fresh strawberries

2 cups water with a handful of ice

1/2 cup lactose free greek yoghurt (hello extra dose of protein)

1 scoop vanilla plant based protein powder

1 tsp vanilla extract

1 tsp stevia

1 tbsp ground flax seeds

As you can probably tell from the lighting it was nighttime and this shake was more hearty to fill me up. It was the pre dinner dinner if you know what I mean 😉 (I ate about 2 hours later). Anyhow, I really loved adding the stevia as it helped to make this super sweet when I had a sweet tooth craving!

Day 3: Orange-sicle Pick Me Up

1 full orange (peeled)

1 cup frozen pineapple

2 scoops vanilla plant based protein powder

1 tbsp pumpkin seeds (salted)

1.5 cups water with a handful of ice

It’d been a hot minute since I had an Orange Julius but this was like a sister thicker version of that drink and I was all for it. It would be even better come summer time but for now it was a pretty neat little recipe mix up!

Day 4: Chocolately Chunky Monkey

1 banana

1 cup fresh spinach

1/2 cup lactose free greek yoghurt

1 heaping scoop chocolate plant based protein powder

1 tbsp cocoa powder

2 pitted dates

1 heaping tbsp peanut butter (natural and chunky)

2 cups water with a handful of ice

I mean, common, it’s stacked with chocolate so naturally I’m in love with this recipe. I usually do prefer vanilla shakes as I can have more variety with my fruits (I don’t like to mix berries with chocolate for some reason). But yes, this was as amazing as it sounds and packed with good macros and a ton of protein!

Day 5: Hydrating Blackberry Bliss

1 cup pure coconut water

2 scoops vanilla plant based protein powder

1 banana

1 heaping cup of frozen blackberries

2 tbsp dried goji berries

1 tsp stevia

To be honest I really didn’t want to make this last smoothie today. I don’t know why but I was hesitant on the whole black berry thing and I don’t love coconut water but I made myself try something new yet again and was kinda shocked how great it was. I couldn’t taste the coconut but knew I was getting an extra dose of hydration so that was a bonus! Overall, not my top pick of the week but would make it again, that’s a win!

And just like that you’ve got 5 days worth of protein packed, antioxidant smoothie blends that SERIOUSLY TASTE GOOD!

And if you are wondering- yes, I’ve been using a whole new system of health care since being pregnant and am loving how it tastes. I’ve been trying plant based powders for a few years on and off and would use them cause of the benefits but always found them somewhat gritty – UNTIL NOW. I literally took a full year to try this system from my girlfriend and wish I wasn’t so stubborn a long ass time ago so I could’ve shared it with you sooner.

Alright so that’s it from me for now… I hope you all have a fabulous weekend you beautiful souls!
